We use the present perfect tense to talk about things that happened at some time in the past and have a connection to the present.

Its main purpose is to demonstrate the relevance of past action or situation with the current conditions.

The present perfect is often used to suggest that a past action still has an effect upon something happening in the present.

The present perfect form of a verb is made up of two parts.

1. Positive statements are formed like this :

The formula is S + aux. verb(have/has) + V-3/past participle

 Subject     have/has   Past participle
I
You
We                     Have           finished
They

He/She/It         Has              eaten

 2. Negative statements are formed like this :

The formula is S + aux. verb(have/has) + not + V-3/past participle

Example    :    I have not/haven’t finished

3. Questions are formed like this :

The formula is aux. verb(have/has) + S + V-3/past participle ?

Example    :   Have I finished ?
